What happens after you click it

Three steps, and none of them asks you for anything.

1

Run the installer

One signed file. Windows will ask for permission once, because putting drivers on a PC needs it.

2

It scans, in seconds

Every device on the machine, read straight from Windows. Nothing is installed at this point — what leaves your PC is the list of hardware identifiers we need in order to look drivers up.

3

You decide, with the evidence

Each driver with a newer version carries its own record — how many people installed it and how many of those installs worked.

The questions worth asking before you install anything

What this does to your computer

Nothing goes on without a way back

Your current driver is copied into an archive on your PC, and Windows makes a restore point, before the new one is written.

Packages are checked before they reach you

Scanned for threats, and their signature verified. The app shows you which are signed, on the card, before you press anything.

No toolbars, no bundled extras

The installer contains DriverMax and its own updater. Nothing else is in the package, and nothing else is offered during setup.

It leaves when you tell it to

An ordinary Windows uninstall, from Settings or Control Panel. Drivers you already installed stay — they belong to Windows now.

It keeps itself current, quietly

New versions install while the machine is idle. No badge to click, no restart nag, nothing asking you to approve an update.

Old PCs are welcome

Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 install drivers with a different command from Windows 11. DriverMax works out which one it is on and uses the right one.

Careful about what you run? Every release publishes its version, file name, size and SHA-256 at api.drivermax.com/download/latest.json — check the file you downloaded against it.

Before you download

Is it really free, or free for a week?

Free, with no clock on it. Scanning, reading the results, backing up your drivers and spotting devices Windows has no driver for never expire. What the free version limits is how many drivers you may install — two a day, ten a month — and that limit does not tighten over time. If that is not enough, a licence lifts it.

Do I need an account to download it?

No, and you do not need one to use it either. An account only starts being useful once you own a licence, because holding the licence is what it is for.

Will it install a driver behind my back?

No. Every install is a button you press, on a driver you picked, after a dialog that names the version going on and the version coming off.

What if a new driver makes things worse?

Your old one is in the archive and Windows has a restore point from a moment before. Roll back from either, and neither of them needs us.

Does it work on an old laptop?

Yes — Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 included, 32-bit as well as 64-bit. Old machines are where a driver updater earns its keep, so they are not an afterthought here.

How do I get rid of it?

Windows Settings, Apps, Uninstall. Drivers you installed stay where they are, because by then they belong to Windows rather than to us.

Find out what your PC is running

A few seconds, no account, and nothing installed until you say so.
